2nd European Football Fans‘ Congress 2009 in Hamburg

“We Are the Game !”
2nd European Football Fans’ Congress
17-19 July 2009 in Hamburg, Germany

European Football Fans Congress
17-19 July 2009 in Hamburg
In July last year more than 250 football fans from 27 countries, from Norway to Israel, from Portugal to the Ukraine, came together for the first time to kick-off the formation of an independent and representative European network of football fans at the 1st European Football Fans’ Congress in London.

We discussed all sorts of issues around topics such as fan culture, policing, ticketing, anti-discrimination and club ownership and started to identify important areas for future activities of a united body of football fans in Europe that is able to speak up and campaign on all issues relevant to us.
To get this process going, a Steering Committee consisting of fans’ representatives from eight different countries across the continent was appointed to take responsibility of the next steps.

Many things have happened since: UEFA have continued their initial support and backed the establishment of a Coordinating Office for the network whilst acknowledging its independent nature. Together with this independent FSI Coordinating Office based in Hamburg/Germany, the members of the Steering Committee have spent the past months with plenty of unrewarding tasks such as developing preliminary statutes with a voting system, establishing a proper network structure and conditions for membership for the network.

We’ve made lots of new contacts with grassroots fans groups throughout Europe who joined our cause and it’s becoming more and more obvious that there is a clear need for broader protest and campaigning on all sorts of fans’ issues at European level.

The next round is again up to all of you!
The 2nd European Football Fans’ Congress (EFFC) 2009 will feature not only 10 workshop sessions on issues such as

  • Legislation affecting fans in football,
  • Kick-off-times,
  • Campaigning & Fundraising for fans’ initiatives,
  • Pyrotechnic articles in football,
  • Involvement of minority groups in football
  • How to increase fan ownership in Europe
  • etc.

and a framework programme with plenty of social events around football but also the first democratic election of the committee as the main board of the network, the formal adoption of the statues and the final name for the European fans’ body. We don’t just want to talk at this event, we want to get things going further and elaborate substantial results and the basis for all our actions in the near future!

Fans from both big football clubs in Hamburg, FC St Pauli and Hamburger SV, are supporting the organisation of this event to provide the best conditions for another great success in the process of establishing this European fans’ network. Upon request, we can also provide financial support for delegates of fans’ groups without sufficient means with travel costs and accommodation for their trip to Hamburg.

It is your collective decision- so make sure you take part in this 2nd EFFC in Hamburg on 17-19 July 2009 and join the network to give football fans in Europe a united, and thus more powerful voice for the future of our game!
